Artist Statement

Separating myself from some of the norms and traditions of glass blowing has allowed me to develop my own creative glass innovations. I design site specific, hanging glass sculptural chandeliers, sconces, and pendant lights.

My approach to art emerges from my overall design philosophy, which is to “listen” to both the materials that I am engaging and their shared environment. Wherever the energy of life flows, subtle patterns will emerge to guide us. We need to abandon our preconceptions of what we want something to be, and feel what it wants to become. In my design process, I am the orchestra, not the conductor. Creativity is a collaborative, not a solo, process.

In 2005, I was awarded a commission to design 5 permanent chunk glass chandeliers for the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This commission was a pivotal chapter in my career as an artist as it enabled me to fully develop my signature style of chunk glass chandeliers.
