Anita Sue Kolman Artist Representative has been connecting art lovers with artists and their work since 2001. We don't operate a gallery but rather we bring clients and artists together through studio visits or artists' visits to clients' homes and offices. Our vision is to make connections in a welcoming and friendly way. Our business model is highly influenced by the art collection experiences of our founder, Anita Sue Kolman. She is repelled by venues that are staffed by people who are snooty, who ignore the customer and appear bothered by their questions. "Experts" who treat customers as though they were stupid just feed into collectors' insecurities about making the "right" choice. Anita is attracted to venues that are friendly, staffed by people who are passionate about the art they sell, and are respectful of her as a collector. As a docent at the Weisman Art Museum at the University of Minnesota and a volunteer arts educator, our founder, Anita Sue Kolman, realized she enjoyed facilitating connections between people and art. Her experiences also taught her that art lovers sometimes have difficulty expressing what they like about a piece of art because they are afraid to make a mistake. This lack of self-confidence makes it extremely difficult when it comes time to make a purchase. Often "would be" collectors pass up art they love, art that speaks to them, and would make them happy because they are unsure of their choices. An avid collector, Anita made a point to meet the artists at least once during the purchase process. Soon it became apparent that artists have just as much difficulty with the sales process as collectors have with buying. Anita knew she had skills and expertise to overcome the barriers that prevent art lovers and artists from getting together. At the urging of an artist friend, she began Anita Sue Kolman Artist Representative. Our service is unique in that we provide opportunities for artists and collectors to meet in friendly and respectful settings. We encourage our clients to interact with the artist who has created the art they purchase. These meetings prove to be valuable for both parties. Collectors learn more about the pieces they love, often finding their instinct wasn't so far off. Artists have a better understanding of what collectors want and what motivates purchases. When personal contacts are not possible, we invite our clients to get to know their favorite artist through telephone and e-mail conversations. At Anita Sue Kolman Artist Representative, we believe art talks to all of us in very special ways and we strive to place art our clients will enjoy for many years to come.
